Yogita Chachra?s mantra for success lies in her creative bent of mind and her innovative skills, says Varun Soni.
She started out by joining the family export business. However, she soon got bored and at the age of 22, she got into making designer candles. One thing led to another and the small enterprise grew into a full-fledged organisation called The Candle Company, which today exports candles to countries across the globe. This has made 28-year-old Yogita Chachra a name to reckon with in the business of designer candles.

However, the transition did not happen overnight. It took Chachra six years of hard work and creativity to carve a niche for herself in the business. Says Chachra, “I chose this profession as it involved very little investment. Also, it did not require me to rent a large space. In fact, I started out by making candles at home. But soon the business grew and today I am exporting to countries like the US and UK.”
The Candle Company has today become the leading manufacturer, retailer and wholesaler of designer candles. Some of its customers include Debenhams in the UK and J.C. Penney in the USA. Says Chachra, “If you have an idea or specific requirements, we will be able to give shape to your thoughts. We have a graphic designer who assists in package design and product presentations. We have tied up with packaging suppliers who produce customised orders.”
Chachra feels that there is huge scope in this field both in the domestic as well as in the international market. “The fact that I make candles only for the overseas market proves that it has become serious business today. Despite competition from China, we have been able to establish ourselves in the global arena.”
But it has not been easy. One has to struggle a lot and innovate continuously in order to stay afloat. Moreover, there are hardly any institutes from where you can pick up the tricks of the trade -- you have to attend workshops or be trained by established designers.
But if you have the creativity and the flair, the world could be your oyster!
