The losses in the last two matches don’t hurt us as much as the injury to Shane Warne.

As I have been saying all along, he is the biggest source of inspiration to us. I hope he gets fit and plays the next few games.

Even though he can be a huge help from the dugout, we would prefer to have him on the field. Apart from his captaincy, his leg-spin gets us crucial breakthroughs.

In Graeme Smith, we have a readymade captain available for us. Smith has led his country for many years and all that experience will come in handy.

But let’s all hope Warne is declared fit to play.

Now a look back at the last two games and the reasons for our losses. As I have said all along, our batting has let us down time and again. We won three games, then lost the next two because we committed the same mistakes.

Unlike last year, we have not been able to build partnerships. The opening partnership was the highlight of our 2008 campaign, but this time we haven’t had any significant input from the top.

We are surviving only because of our bowling and fielding. Now our task is clear-cut, we need to win all the remaining matches to make it to the semifinals. TCM
