JAN MORCHA national convener Raj Babbar on Thursday stated that his party would launch a statewide campaign from September 23 to expose the State Government.

Babbar was in the city to express his solidarity with the residents of Gopal Nagar and to oppose the Kanpur Development Authority’s demolition drive in the area.
Talking to newsmen here today, Babbar said the campaign against the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led Government would continue till October 7.

Babbar said the CM had deviated from the path of Ram Manohar Lohia. “Now, the CM is solely concerned about the matters related to the affluent section of the society and not the poor and the underprivileged.”

Attacking the CM, Babbar said, “Once the CM belonged to the underprivileged section so he can very well understand the sufferings of the poor. But now he will realise his follies only when he is out of power”.

Commenting on the KDA demolition drive at Gopal Nagar, he asserted that the drive would not be allowed to go on. “If necessary, former Prime Minister VP Singh and local residents will stage a massive demonstration,” he added.

He added that Gopal Nagar was so big that 50,000 families could be rehabilitated in the area.

On the question of ‘betterment charges’ to be levied on Gopal Nagar residents, Babbar said, “When there are no civic amenities in the area, no drinking water, no roads and no electricity then how does the question of betterment charges arise.”

Putting a question mark on the demolition drive, Babbar stated why action was not being taken against the land mafia who had encroached KDA land worth several crore of rupees.

He also demanded action against those KDA officials who were responsible for illegal constructions in the city.

Replying to a query, Babbar stated MLA Raj Kishore Verma would raise the matter in the Vidhan Sabha.

Raj Kishore Verma, who represents the Mahilabad constituency near Lucknow, is from the Nationalist Communist Party. He was present at the dharna and extended full support to the Jan Morcha.
