When the matter came up before the special court Judge AT Manoli adjourned the proceedings in view of the earlier decision of the court to club two separate cases of similar nature into one, that had been questioned in the Supreme Court by the petitioners and stay was granted by the Apex court.

K Anbagalan, the Tamil Nadu finance minister and also General Secretary of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) had challenged the order of the special court dealing with the two separate disappropriation of wealth cases involving former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and four others. The Supreme Court had given a stay on the proceedings of the lower court and the matter was pending before the Apex court.
