It is the latter's responsibility to bring in any changes in law that will help empower women in our society. Suitable steps should be taken to make sure that registration of marriages becomes mandatory for all communities.

In fact, it amounts to Rs 135 crore. So, he's causing a loss of Rs 100 crore to the exchequer.

The Election Commission has sought the views of political parties on the issue of State funding of elections. It would be appropriate for the EC to consider the views of all sectors of the tax-paying public and other bodies as to how these funds should be distributed. Also, the EC must impose restrictions in respect of selection of candidates, their educational qualification and criminal background so that public funds are not misused.

Inhuman act
The US war against terrorism has taken a disgusting turn with American soldiers resorting to acts like covering prisoners with faeces, etc. (New images of prisoner abuse, Feb. 16). It seems President Bush has forgotten the Geneva Convention.

Kudos to Team India for their ODI series win over Pakistan. This brigade is our hope for the coming World Cup. We hope Chappell's mission bears fruit in 2007.
