One of the newest Test match venues in the world, the WestpacTrust Stadium in Wellington was built in 1999 to replace the decrepit Athletic Park rugby ground.
Fortunately, far-sighted planners chose to build the stadium with multi-purpose facilities so it can host both cricket and rugby matches.
The modern stadium, named after the bank that paid for its construction, is located a kilometre north of the city and boasts excellent transport links.
It has only been used to host one-day internationals, with the nearby Basin Reserve used for Test matches.
But it got off to an inauspicious start. The first international match disrupted by rain in January 1999 and another against Australia washed out a year later.
During the winter, the ground is the home of Super 12 rugby's Hurricanes and the National Provincial Championship's Wellington Lions.
