THE PRIVATE sector broadband war in the Internet space has a slew of products being offered for home and commercial users in Lucknow. A significant aspect of all the broadband offers are the kind of technology being used by the service providers to keep users connected all the time. Here is a lowdown on what available on the broadband platter in the city:

The Reliance Broadband provides a ‘carrier class’ Internet bandwidth through a dedicated connection over the Internet Protocol (IP) backbone with data speeds ranging from 64 kbps to 100 Mbps. The company offers an online speed select option for sending or receiving data over the Internet with another feature called ‘Pay per Mb’ data transfer.

On the other hand, Sify Broadband uses the technology called fixed wireless. It comprises a stationary 10” X 10” rectangular device called the subscriber-unit.

Mounted on the roof of a Cable Operator’s building, this device points to the closest Sify Base Station that sends and receives signals. The data speed available for the home user and the enterprise user ranges from 64 kbps to 256 kbps.

Airtel Broadband uses the Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technology which can deliver data at the rate of 128 kbps to 8 Mbps depending upon the type and cost of service opted for by the users. The broadband packages are from 64 kbps to 256 kbps catering to home and commercial users.

Sikka Broadband offers connectivity through fibre optic backbone and UTP cable.

It also offers point-to-point connectivity through leased line, DSL router, modems, USB modems besides wireless and fibre optic cables. It is offering bandwidth of 128 kbps, 256 kbps and 512 kbps.
