Students of various colleges in Srinagar on Tuesday held a protest rally seeking answers from the police on the whereabouts of missing city youth Asrar Mushtaq Dar. Some areas of the city also witnessed a shutdown.

Dar (20), a commerce student of Islamia College, went missing on Friday (July 3). He left home to go to the gym and never came back.

Among the students were many classmates of Dar. “He is our brother. For five days, the police have not been able to trace him. It is a shame,” said Burhan Ahmad, one of the protestor.

Dar’s family members have also been protesting the disappearance. Maisuma — where he hails from — saw pitched battles between stone-pelting youngsters and the police.

The police have registered a case and started investigations. But investigating officer Sheikh Zulfikar Azad told HT “the law and order problems in his home area are creating problems”.
