A LARGE number of students have passed the XII standard examinations conducted by various boards, like the UP Board, ICSE and CBSE. But most of them are bound to face a tough competition to get admission to different undergraduate courses in the current academic session in the district.

According to reports, around 60,000 students of UP Board, CBSE and ICSE got through the intermediate and equivalent examinations. But there are around 20,000 seats for undergraduate courses in different universities and colleges in the district. From the above figures, it is clear that out of three, only one student will get admission to UG and equivalent courses. Around 40,000 students will face the problem of admission in the current academic session.
There are around 13,950 seats for graduation and equivalent courses in the Banaras Hindu University, Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Arya Mahila Degree College, DAV Degree College, Vasant Kanya Mahavidyalaya (Kamachcha), Vasanta College for Women (Rajghat), Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, UP College, Harishchandra Degree College, Agrasen Degree College, Jagatpur PG College and Sudhakar Mahila Mahavidyalaya.
Besides, there are around 7,000 seats for graduation and equivalent courses in other colleges, such as Baldeo PG College (Baragaon), Ram Manohar Lohia Degree College (Rajatalab), Kalika Dham Degree College (Sewapuri), DLW Women’s College, Government Degree College (Jakhini) and some other private higher educational institutes in the district.
Reports said that around 36,000 students got through the intermediate examination of Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad this year while around 3,000 students passed the XII standard of ICSE and CBSE examination in in the district. Besides, around 20,000 students, belonging to Ghazipur, Ballia, Azamgarh, Mau, Jaunpur, Bhadohi, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Bihar and West Bengal apply for higher education in various universities and colleges in the district every year.
As per the above figures, around 40,000 have to face the problem of admission in higher academic institutes. Those who will opt for B.Sc and B.Com have to face the biggest problem as the number of institutions offering these courses is very limited.
Around 80,000 students had applied for various undergraduate courses in the
BHU this year while more than 10,000 students have applied for admission to various undergraduate courses in Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth. Although the admission process has not yet started, the figures clearly indicate that the students have to face a tough -throat competition to pursue their higher education in the current academic calendar.
