That’s what Mahajan’s wife, Sarangi, has written to state Home Minister R.R. Patil. Sarangi has sought directions from the state as to who is responsible for Mahajan, who had already signed his surrender papers before he suffered from brain haemorrhage.

Mahajan has been admitted to the intensive care unit of Jupiter Hospital in Thane (W) after he collapsed at his residence on December 11, a day after his two-week-long furlough ended.

Sarangi’s brother, Prasad Puliwar, personally handed over the letter to Patil in Nagpur on Thursday.

“As the procedure mandates, Mahajan had signed his surrender documents in the presence of Thane police officials, 12 hours prior to his actual surrender,” said Puliwar.

“Thus, technically he had surrendered to the state and so they are accountable for him now. He collapsed after signing and we admitted him to private hospital in an emergency,” he added.

Puliwar said they had no information as to who would direct them on the further course of action in case Mahajan had to be shifted elsewhere or regarding the financial aspects of his illness.

“We have asked the state to give clear cut directions on its stand in the matter as even Jupiter Hospital will need directions for further course of action if his condition remains the same,” said Puliwar.

Puliwar said though Patil had promised to reply to the letter in 24 hours, “we haven’t still received any response”.
