Musharraf, who arrived in New York on Monday, seemed to have moved slightly away from his recent insistence on a timeframe to resolve the Kashmir issue, saying his emphasis was really on "early progress".

Musharraf, who addresses the UN on Wednesday, will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh two days later. He earlier told Pakistani journalists, that he would meet Singh with an open mind and expectations of "some indications" about the future course of the dialogue process.

But diplomatic circles are not too sure if he will make a clean break from his aggressive Kashmir stance of past occasions. But whatever line Musharraf takes here, Islamabad is sure to keep up the pressure on India in Washington on the Kashmir issue.
