IT bellwether Wipro Infotech has bagged a Rs 3.6 billion ($80 million) contract from HDFC Bank to provide IT outsourcing services over the next 10 years, a company statement said Friday.

As part of the contract, Wipro Infotech will build, own and operate the IT infrastructure of the private bank at all its branches.

According to HDFC Bank IT head CN Ram, outsourcing its IT services to Wipro Infotech will enable the bank to expand its network across the country and optimise operational costs.

"Wipro's expertise across technology platforms, a nationwide support network and best in class processes will ensure consistent and geo-agnostic quality service delivery," Ram said.

The deal will help Wipro enter the big league to offer total IT outsourcing services as in the case of big-ticket firms like HP and IBM.

"Our total outsourcing practice enables the bank to leverage on best practices for service delivery and technology deployment. Our focus and investments in the total outsourcing business has enabled us to win this contract of global size," said Wipro Infotech president Suresh Vaswani.
