Woman kills daughter, self in Kolkata
Though police believe it is a case of suicide from depression, they are awaiting the post-mortem reports.
Apparently depressed after her husband's death four years ago, a 32-year-old woman strangled her 10-year-old daughter and then killed herself in her Kolkata home, police said.
Archana Aich, 32, was found hanging in the stairwell of a two-storied house in Keyatala Lane near Gariahat while the body of her daughter, in her school uniform, was found on the bed in the mezzanine floor.
A suicide note said: "I am responsible."
According to police officials, Aich strangled daughter Sumitra with a black sari that she had cut into two with a new blade. She then wrote the note and hanged herself with the other half of the sari.
She had been sharing the room with her daughter Sumitra ever since her husband Dilip's death from cancer four years ago. The house belongs to a relative.
Though police believe it is a case of suicide from depression, they are awaiting the post-mortem reports to arrive at a definite conclusion.
