The Millennium City police have created a special cell of 24 women officers to combat the problem of drunk women drivers and they have been specially told to show no mercy.

"Because we have very few women officers in our team, we are unable to check drunk women drivers. It's tough especially during the nights," said Bharti Arora, DCP (Traffic).

The unit will keep a close watch on popular pubs and restaurants in the city.

"We'll closely monitor such places, especially popular malls and pubs on MG Road and near the Expressway," Arora said.

The unit, she said, would take the pressure off from other teams checking drunk drivers on major roads, such as the toll plaza and the Iffco Chowk.

The department will initially include 24 women officers in the team. Three of them would be of ASI rank.

They will be divided into three teams who will be stationed at the three zones of Gurgaon Police - East, West and Highway.

These teams are likely to be on the job from today.
