Yamuna... that was once alive

I had been living in Delhi for the past 60 years. In our young days we went to swim in Yamuna almost everyday in summer. How cool and fresh we used to feel! Now whenever I cross it my heart bleeds to see its condition. It is not more than a sewer. It is how we managed a God given gift and the biggest asset that Delhi has. The only solution seems to be to channelise the 12 km route which passes through Delhi and stop all waste going into it and develop its banks with gardens.

I wish to express my anguish at the plight of Yamuna.

I had been living in Delhi for the past 60 years. In our young days we went to swim in Yamuna almost every day during summer vacations. How cool and fresh we used to feel! Now whenever I cross Yamuna my heart bleeds to see its condition. It is not more than a sewer.

Its water is black and emits a foul smell. It is how we managed a God given gift and the biggest asset that Delhi has.

The only solution seems to be to channelise the 12 km route which passes through Delhi and stop all waste going into it and develop its banks with gardens.
