Yana yearns to shake a leg
Yana Gupta, Bollywood?s favourite item girl, gyrates once again in Oh! What a babe with Sanjay Dutt.
When Mumbai-based fashion designer Rocky S was roped in to give Babuji girl Yana Gupta a distinct look for Mahesh Manjarekar’s Rakht, he decided to keep it classy yet simple.

The four outfits that he designed for Oh! What a babe, where she matches step with Sanjay Dutt, include a cat-suit with fur and armbands with red crystal; a short skirt with an asymmetrical top and African bead jewellery besides a gown embellished with Swarovski and crystal jewellery. Plus hot pants with a corset combined with antique silver jewellery. “We added hair extensions and made her eyes look heavier,” says Rocky.
The song, choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant, was shot at the Mumbai discotheque Mikanos. Mikanos is a popular Bollywood haunt with Ishq Samunder (Kaante) and Yaara (Plan) having also been shot there. “Sanjay is a good dancer. So we didn’t really have to rehearse. The set-up was interesting with spray painted images on the walls that added a dash to the picturisation,” says the Czech beauty. Shot in six days, the song has Yana doing her jhatkas and loving every bit of it. “If you love music, your body automatically grooves to it. But each item song is a learning experience for me.”
Bollywood’s favourite item girl is looking forward to two hot numbers in a Telugu and Tamil film now. Also, she wants meaty roles in Bollywood. “Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding was realistic and touching at the same time. It raised issues that got you thinking. I want to do a film that makes you come out of the theatre thinking and not saying : Oh! I killed my three hours,” says Gupta.
