Young lovers attempt suicide

A YOUNG man and woman, believed to be lovers, attempted to end life by jumping into the Upper Lake from the VIP Road late evening. Both are residents of Tila Jamalpura. The attempt created sensation among the evening visitors on the lakeside.

A YOUNG man and woman, believed to be lovers, attempted to end life by jumping into the Upper Lake from the VIP Road late evening. Both are residents of Tila Jamalpura. The attempt created sensation among the evening visitors on the lakeside.

Police patrol that was present on the VIP Road, managed to pull out the duo, saving both of them. They were taken to the hospital where the boy, Yashwant, 21, regained consciousness but the girl, Mithiliesh, 19, is still unconscious.

The police queried Yashwant, who allegedly said that they decided to jump at the spur of the moment. The police are suspecting some problem in a love affair as the cause of the attempt. A case has been registered and police are investigating further.

Drug peddler held

A MAN was arrested for allegedly possessing brown sugar in Jehangirabad area on Tuesday. According to police, Dinesh Sharma, 34, a resident of Shivaji Nagar, was involved in drug peddling. On the basis of an informer’s report, the police arrested him today. The accused was carrying 20 gm of narcotic.

Sharma is a driver with the State Government and drives official vehicles. He got addicted to drug a few years back and as it became difficult for him to meet expenses, he got into drug peddling to earn money, police said. The accused has been arrested under the NDPS Act.
