Q: What was the idea behind setting up Epicentre in Gurgaon?
Epicentre started four years ago. A lot of Gurgaon residents used to come to India Habitat Centre (IHC) in Delhi due to lack of similar avenues here. We realised the need of setting up a centre in Gurgaon on the lines of IHC. It is encouraging to see plays at Epicentre running to 90%-95% capacity.
Q: Do people in Gurgaon have any unique inclination than those living in Delhi when it comes to life after work activities?
Gurgaon has a much younger population whose interest might not just be art and culture. They are equally into adventure sports, hobby walks and films.
Q: What all leisure avenues are available for the globally-travelled and cosmopolitan residents of Gurgaon?
Gurgaon has a number of such activities. However, the city's art and theatre circuit is new and is still evolving.
Q:You run shows at both the IHC in Delhi and the Epicentre in Gurgaon. Are the programmes conceptualised differently in both the cities?
At IHC, we have more of panel discussions, talks and art exhibitions whereas the demand for such programmes is limited in Gurgaon. At Epicentre, we organise more of fun shows and musical events. Simple concepts like Lohri celebrations have a good number of takers in Gurgaon as most of the people living here are migrants and such celebrations help them bond with fellow residents.
Q:Gurgaon has a considerable number of expats living here. Do you think places like Epicentre will appeal to them?
We have a lot of expats coming to Epicentre for musical events and art exhibitions. For them, it's a good experience of the Indian culture.
Q:Do Gurgaon's safety challenges play a spoilsport to its nightlife?
I think it always helps to have a safe and secure environment.
