The district police on Saturday produced murder accused Jitendra Thakur alias Jitu in the court of additional chief judicial magistrate Deepak Kumar Pandey from where he was sent to four-day police remand.
Jitu, who shot notorious gangster Anil Tyagi dead in the high-security Indore central jail on Thursday morning, was brought to court by police from district jail.
Tyagi was accused of bumping off Awasthi’s father Shiv Prasad Awasthi alias Nan Guru, a criminal on June 22. Police believe that Awasthi planned Tyagi’s murder in the jail to avenge his father’s killing.
"We are raiding various spots to nab Jitendra Awasthi and other conspirators," said ASP Ramji Shrivastva.
The police already seized weapon and the mobile phones. Call records of Jitu’s phone showed he was in contact with Baba and Mangu, who believed to have supplied the weapon used in committing the crime.
"Both Kaptan and Mahendra Baba have been nabbed and are being quizzed," said a police officer investigating the case. Police have also called the CCTV footages of the central jail.
According to police, a knife, a pistol and five bullets, all wrapped in polythene, were thrown inside the jail from Rajkumar Bridge on August 25.
A police officer said the quizzing of Jitendra Thakur is going on. The senior jail authorities are planning to build another wall of the central jail.
