The fair, organised yearly, drew an overwhelming response with more than 64,500 socially and economically backward people from Indore and nearby areas approaching the government officials for help.

The fair was inaugurated by urban administration and development minister Kailash Vijaywargiya in the presence of former MLA Jitu Jirati and MLA Sudarshan Gupta.

The event had around 19 stalls being put up by various departments to ensure that the schemes by the government trickle down to the poorest of poor.

A huge rush could be seen at stalls put up by the department of social justice, women and child care and the local administration. The event also saw distribution of ‘Laadli Laxmi’ certificates to 6,672 girls.

A number of visitors who had come to the fair were seen thronging to the stalls to get their caste certificates and register themselves under the 'Kanyadaan Yojna'.

"The kanyadaan yojna of the state government is the most popular scheme among people. We have already conducted more than 100 weddings this year. We plan to conduct a similar mass marriage programme month-end," said KK Khede, the joint director of state social justice department.
