Income tax officials carried out surveys at two companies promoted by Akash late on Wednesday, after his name figured in diaries, account books of Prakash Asphalting & Toll Highway (PATH) Pvt Ltd and PD Agrawal Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, which are among the three government contractors being searched by tax sleuths.

"We will ask him (Akash Vijayvargiya) about the tax evasion part and also about his name surfacing in business transactions with PATH highways and others," an IT official said. "His statements will be recorded."

Income tax officials also carried out a survey at Shreenath Infrastructure, a now defunct company owned by Akash in Palasia and recovered several 'incriminating' documents, sources said.

The department has impounded documents from the Surya infrastructure office in Nanda Nagar, the locality where the Vijayvargiya family resides. Searches and surveys at firms continued till late on Thursday night, sources said.

Akash did not respond despite repeated phone calls by HT. His associate, Banti Vijayvargiya, who looks after his business interests, said Akash would return to the city on Friday. He, however, refused to comment on the income tax department’s searches.

Akash’s father, Kailash is also expected to be in city on Friday, sources said.

Prakash Asphalting & Toll Highway (PATH) Pvt Ltd has several ongoing road and highway construction projects in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

This apart, the company has taken up several construction projects in Mhow assembly constituency which is represented by Vijayvargiya. Vijayvargiya was state PWD minister earlier.
