The horrific death of a 17-year-old student training to be a teacher, has shaken her father’s resolve to work for girls’ education.

She was found dead in a water tank outside the hostel of her college in Bikaner on March 29.

“I should not have educated her… she might have been alive,” the father said from Trimohi village near the Indo-Pakistan border in Barmer district on Monday night.

He accused the college physical training instructor of rape and murder. Police arrested the accused on April 1 while hostel warden Priya Shukla was taken into custody two days later.

“For a long time, I had been working in the village to motivate people to send their children, especially girls, to school. I don’t think I can continue doing that now,” the heartbroken village primary school teacher said.
