To make it appear like a suicide, the accused hung the body from the ceiling of a hut in a farm, he alleged. The incident took place Friday.

Based on his complaint, police have registered a case under sections 376 read with 511 and 302 of IPC, said Shera Ram, assistant sub inspector at Siwana police station.

The body of the 16-year-old girl was handed over to the family after post mortem Saturday, they said. The accused is absconding.

In his complaint, the father said that his daughter and daughter-in-law were working at his farm Friday evening. While his daughter-in-law took the cattle out to graze, the daughter stayed behind at a temporary hut the family had erected in the farm. On finding her alone, the accused, identified as Budha Ram Bheel, entered the hut and tried to rape her.

The father told the police that when his daughter started screaming for help, the accused strangled her and then hanged the body from the ceiling.

Investigation in the case is on, police said.
