A 10-year-old girl, abducted by a suspected drug addict from a hospital in Kota on Friday following her mother’s death, was rescued a few hours later, police said on Saturday.

The accused, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, took Shalu with him from the Government Jay Kay Lon Hospital on Friday a few hours after her mother died, police said. The woman delivered a stillborn baby two days ago.

Police launch a search for Shalu after her younger sister Golu, 8, informed the hospital management that a man took away her elder sister, deputy superintendent of police Shivbhagwan said.

The girl was recovered by the Government Railway Police from Kota railway station on Friday evening, he said.

Shalu informed police that the accused took her to Lakheri railway station by a train but she got suspicious over the man’s motive and boarded a return train.

She also told police that after her mother died, the man took her with him for arranging money for the family.

Police officer Shivbhagwan said the accused’s face was identified through footage of security cameras installed in the hospital and a hunt was on to nab him.

Police said the girl’s mother Madhu Suryavanshi, 38, was living with her two daughters in one Rajesh Jain’s home in Kota for the past nine months after leaving her husband’s house in Dholpur. Recently, she also left Jain’s home.

The two minor girls were sent to a shelter home in Kota, the police officer said.
