Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday offered prayers at the Dargah of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in the city for restoration of peace and tranquillity in the Valley.
Interacting with the media, Mufti advocated for talks between India and Pakistan to restore lasting peace in the Valley. She offered a velvet ‘chadar’ amid tight security arrangements, police said.
“Kashmir is in turmoil, and people have suffered a lot,” she said.
“I wish peace and normalcy returns to the Valley and my visit to the shrine is to seek blessings for it,” Mehbooba said.
She, however, said that peace in the Valley can be ensured only if both the neighbouring countries shed their enmity and resolve the differences through dialogue.
“I pray to Allah that the moment will come soon,” she said.
The chief minister tweeted, “Returned to Dargah Ajmer Sharif to seek the blessings of Khwaja Hazrat Moinuddin Chishti (RA). Khwaja Saheb’s timeless message to us was, “Love towards all, Malice towards none.” Bearing this in mind, I pray for peace, prosperity & progress for all the people of Jammu & Kashmir,” she posted on her Twitter handle.
The state has bore the maximum brunt of Indo-Pak hostilities in recent times.
