Reassuring the party rank and file, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said no parachute candidates would be given tickets in assembly elections.
Addressing a gathering of party workers at Ramlila grounds in Jaipur in poll-bound Rajasthan, Gandhi said, “Before every election, parachute candidates come and take tickets. This time I guarantee that not one parachute candidate will get tickets. I will cut strings of parachute candidates.”
During his 36-minute speech, Gandhi said the mood of the people was positive and Congress would form the government in Rajasthan, MP and Chhattisgarh. “It is the Congress workers who will bring the party to power.”
Gandhi said the government would be of Congress workers and their voices would be heard.
He exhorted Congress workers to create awareness about “corruption in Rafale deal” among the masses so that whole India would come to know about it.
Gandhi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Vasundhara Raje talk about farmers but they are committing suicide daily in India and in Rajasthan. “I have also noted that while Modi ji hugs industrialists, he never hugs a farmer. Have you ever seen him hugging a farmer?” Gandhi asked.
“Modi has waived off loans to the tune of Rs 2.30 lakh crore of 15-20 industrialists, but when I led a delegation to the PMO to ask for farm loan waiver, he did not say a word,” he said. “I don’t understand one thing, when industrialists fail to pay the loan it is called non-performing asset, but when farmers don’t pay the loan they are called defaulters. Why is that?”
Gandhi attacked Modi on unemployment, saying that while the Prime Minister had promised 2 crore jobs a year, the figures were saying something else.
“In 24 hours, China creates 50,000 new jobs. Do you know how many jobs are created in India in 24 hours? Only 450 youths get jobs out of crores of unemployed youth,” he said.
Targeting the chief minister, Gandhi said, “CM Raje says lakhs of youths have got jobs but youth know the truth. Youths work hard but can’t get jobs because your name is not Anil Ambani. He can get contract worth crores, he can snatch your jobs, but you can’t do anything.”
Gandhi launched a scathing attack on increase in rape cases in Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, saying women were afraid to go out today.
“Modi ji had said Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao, but he failed to tell you protect from whom. In UP, BJP MLA is involved in rape. The BJP starts working to protect that MLA. PM is silent. In Chhattisgarh same situation,” he said.
“Modi ji said nothing has been done in past 70 years, but Modi ji the situation of the women today hasn’t been so bad in the past 3000 years,” he said.
Gandhi said ‘Gabbar Singh Tax’ has destroyed the small business and is only helping companies such as Amazon.
“If Congress comes to power in 2019, we will remove the Gabbar Singh Tax and give the real GST with one rate (of tax). We will also bring petrol and diesel under GST to rein in inflation. The government should be for the weak, for small and medium business not for 15 richest industrialists,” he said.
Gandhi also mentioned the “rising atrocities” against dalits, adivasis and minorities. “They are being beaten, crushed in the entire country. But the Prime Minister doesn’t utter a word.”
He also attacked Amit Shah obliquely by mentioning the suspicious death of judge Loya and said Shah’s son has turned Rs 50,000 to Rs 80 crore.
