Women’s group opposes edu criteria for panchayat polls

The Mahila Panch Sarpanch Sangthan of Rajasthan has opposed the newly introduced education qualification criteria for contesting panchayat elections. The sangthan said in a press statement the “drastic measure” comes in effect only days prior to the announcement for the panchayat elections.

The Mahila Panch Sarpanch Sangthan of Rajasthan has opposed the newly introduced education qualification criteria for contesting panchayat elections. The sangthan said in a press statement the “drastic measure” comes in effect only days prior to the announcement for the panchayat elections.

Introducing a disqualification measure of this nature goes against the basic principles enshrined in the Constitution. It also violates fundamental rights guaranteed to every citizen of this country, the association said.

In a democratic country, introducing selective disqualification measures such as two child norm and minimum education requirement is hindering inclusive participation of all in grassroots development, it said.
