Two members of AMRI board, managing director, Dr Mani Chhetri and Dr Pranab Dasgupta have been arrested by the police on Friday for massive fire at Kolkata's AMRI hospital that killed 93 and injured over 50 in December 2011.
Chhetri and Dasgupta were also board members of the hospital.
With them, 13 persons have so far been arrested in connection with the hospital fire in which 90 patients and three nurses died.
The police had earlier arrested seven directors (six of them promoter-directors) in connection with the case.
The absconders are three board members Aditya Agarwal, Preeti Surekha and Rahul Todi.
Those arrested are seven board members SK Todi, RS Goenka, Ravi Todi, Manish Goenka, Prasanta Goenka, Dayananda Agarwal and RS Agarwal.
Senior Vice-president S Upadhyay and Administrative Officer Sanjib Pal were arrested on December 13.
Vice-president Pritha Banerjee and a staff member Sajid Hussain were held on January 23.
The licence of the hospital was cancelled on the day of the fire incident.
AMRI Hospital is jointly promoted by RS Goenka-led Emami Group and SK Todi-led Shrachi Group of companies with a minor shareholding of the West Bengal government.
The devastating fire that broke out on December 9, 2011, in the in the Advanced Medicare and Research Institute killed 93 and injured over 50. The pre-dawn fire broke out at 3.30 am in the well-known hospital in South Kolkata's middle class Dhakuria neighbourhood, catching many in their sleep. While most nurses, doctors and other staffers were able to get away, many critically ill patients suffocated to death in their hospital beds.
Incidentally, this was the second fire at AMRI. The previous one, three years ago, had not resulted in any deaths.
