Be tech-savvy, get concessions on your electricity bill
Those who pay on the internet or don't take a printed bill would be able to avail the concessionsUpdated: Jun 20, 2013 09:57 IST
State-run West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (WBSEDCL) is likely to adopt a unique scheme under which consumers would be able to avail additional concessions on electricity bills provided they opt for online payment or don’t take printed bills.
The additional concession rate would either be 1% of the bill or Rs 50, whichever is lower. According to sources from the state power department, a proposal in this regard will be sent to the West Bengal State Electricity Regulatory Commission (WBSERC), at the same time when WBSEDCL seeks the commission’s permission for a tariff hike to the tune of 20 paise per unit.
Explaining the scheme, a state power department official said that the model will somewhat be like concessions on mobile phone bills provided by different service providers.
“WBSEDCL consumers opting for e- bills instead of printed paper will be able to avail the concessions. But those who do not have Internet or computer can also avail of the discount. They have to call up the helpline, know the amount and pay the bill over the counter. But to avail the discount, they would have to pay within the due date and not take a printout,” the state power department official said.
According to him, many mobile service providers are adopting similar schemes for saving paper.
