Accordingly, the state Criminal Investigation Department, which has started probing the case, has registered a murder case, although the first police reaction on Wednesday was that Manna had committed suicide.

In a complaint filed with the Jagacha police station in Howrah district, Manna claimed his son was targeted because he was the first Investigating Officer in the Rizwanur death case. He also alleged that his son had been pressured by some political leaders and the inspector in-charge of the Dum Dum GRP station. “The pressure increased soon after the Todis (Rizwanur’s in-laws) were released on bail.”

Rizwanur, a graphic designer was found dead on a railway track a month after he got married to Kolkata-based businessman Ashok Todi’s daughter, Priyanka, in 2007.

Although the CBI said Rizwan committed suicide, three members of the Todi family, including Ashok Todi, were arrested.
