The Governor conveyed his condolences to the families and near ones of those who died and expressed concern for the injured.

In a statement, Narayanan said he had been assured by the Railway authorities as also by the state government that massive rescue operations were underway.

"It is my hope that we will not have to face a similar tragedy in future," he said.
