If nasbandi toppled Indira Gandhi, notebandi will unseat BJP: Mamata Banerjee
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) and demonetisation are scams and will lead to the downfall of the BJP, Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee alleged.Updated: Jul 08, 2017 18:18 IST
Nasbandi toppled Indira Gandhi and notebandi will overthrow the BJP, Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said on Saturday, unleashing a scathing attack on the Centre and accusing it of using various Central investigation agencies to silence opposition leaders.
“Nasbandi (forced vasectomy operations) toppled the Indira Gandhi government even though all people in this country didn’t even know what it was. The nemesis of the BJP is here. Notebandi (demonetisation) will unseat this government,” she said at a press conference.
This was the first time she drew a parallel between the Emergency era and the present regime at the Centre. “Notebandi and GST are big corruptions. We opposed notebandi and immediately after that Central Bureau of Investigation, Enforcement Directorate, Income Tax et all started investigation against leaders of my party,” said Banerjee.
Incidentally, as many as 12 Trinamool leaders, including senior MPs, MLAs and ministers, are facing probe in the Narada sting tapes case and the Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund scams. Among them, former minister Madan Mitra and two MPs, Tapas Pal and Sudip Bandopadhyay were even arrested and sent to judicial custody.
“They (the BJP) has initiated investigation against all those who opposed them. Laluji (Lalu Prasad Yadav), Arvind Kejriwal, a couple of chief ministers are face probe. They started investigation against the National Herald newspaper to corner the Congress,” said the Trinamool Congress chief.
“They (the BJP) will be defeated in 2019. They are using CBI and ED against those who raise their voice. They are out to destroy the federal structure of this country. The Prime Minister said a few days ago that three lakh companies are under scanner. This goes on to prove how vindictive they are,” the chief minister added.
She said it was former finance minister P Chidambaram who first planned the GST. “But the GST Chidambaram wanted to enforce was a different one. The BJP has designed a new one. It is a big scam,” she alleged.
