Kashyap, who took over as IFA president last year, died of a massive cardiac failure in the Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata at around 1.30 am. He was a bachelor. He suffered from cancer.

One of the former joint managing directors of Tata Steel, Kashyap was instrumental in conceptualizing the Nehru Cup tournament in the early 1980s.

The Nehru Cup was launched in 1982.

After his retirement from Tata Steel, Kashyap was the managing director of Mobar Group of Industries. Last year, he joined the board of the Mumbai-based Varun group.

"His death came as a rude shock," said IFA secretary Subrata Dutta. "We deeply mourn his death."
