Singh who was a local committee member of CPI (M) was shot dead last night in Chilgara near Lalgarh.

He had returned home about 10 days ago after fleeing his village for a long time.

On Saturday morning three bodies were found in the jungles of Kushbani, barely 40 kms away from Midnapore town where Bhattacharjee arrived on Saturday afternoon.

The bodies of Lakshmi Das, Manoranjan and Joyram, apparently in their twenties and thirties, were found lying on the state highway connecting Jhargram and Belpahari about 200 kms to the west of Kolkata.

The spot of the crime was in Binpur I block, bordering Jharkhand.

Commenting on the killing of the three, Kishenji, the 51-year old politburo member of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) had said, "They were extorting money in the name of our party."
