The CBI, while submitting the preliminary status report in a sealed cover on the ongoing investigation, prayed for four months for completing its investigations and submitting the final report.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice SS Nijjar and Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghosh directed the CBI to complete its report and submit it before the court by February 15.

Fourteen persons were killed and several others injured in the police firing and violence at Nandigram on March 14 following resistance to the West Bengal government's bid to acquire agricultural land for a chemical hub there.
