Remember the businessman who built a replica of the Taj Mahal for his wife? In 2021, Anand Prakash Chouksey decided to turn his home into an architectural wonder in his hometown of Burhanpur – about 800 kilometres from where Shah Jahan's original creation sits in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.

On August 11, content creator Shubham Prajapat, who goes by Madcap Live on Instagram, shared a tour of the Taj Mahal lookalike house. The tour was given by Anand Prakash Chouksey's son and his family. They shared details that went into making the home. Let's take a look inside:
According to Chouksey's son, the doppleganger house was built by his father for his mother as a symbol of their love, inspired by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, who built the original Taj Mahal for his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. A 2021 report by GQ India revealed that the private property is one-third of the Taj Mahal and two-storeyed.
The grand facade
The facade is completely white with manicured gardens, inspired by the original Taj Mahal's white marble exterior. From the dome-like structure at the top to the four pillars that surround the Taj Mahal and the multiple arches decorating the facade, every detail of the original architectural marvel was incorporated into the house. Even a massive arched entrance – decorated with intricate design, jaal-work, and arched doors – welcomes people into the house.
The regal interiors
Inside, the double-ceiling interiors give the feeling of entering a massive space. According to Chouksey's son, the ceiling is incredibly high, about 24 feet. As you enter the home, you are welcomed into a completely white space, elevated by marble and intricate tilework, with a grand double staircase leading to the first level. “The staircase looks like something from a movie set, and the ceiling is incredibly high—about 24 feet,” Shubham added in the clip.
To match the regal interiors, the family also added grand sofas in their living room. Paintings, windows near the ceiling to allow natural light inside, elegant wainscotting, a stylish dining table, and ambient lighting decorate the space.
When asked how the family created such an accurate Taj Mahal, which took around 1.75 years to create, Chouksey shared, “We took measurements of the actual Taj Mahal; the original dimensions were in meters, but we converted them to feet here, so it’s an exact replica.”
