The election commission has recently derecognised the JMM’s status of regional party in Bihar responding to the Janata Dal (United’s) plea to derecognise the Jharkhand based party headed by former Union coal minister Sibu Soren.

“Yes, we have been derecognised as regional party in Bihar,” confirmed JMM working president Hemant Soren.

He said the development might divest of the traditional bow and arrow symbol of the party.

The JMM is aiming to contest two Lok Sabha seats comprising bordering districts of Bihar.

Party general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said the JMM will soon appeal to the election commission to reinstate the regional party status in Bihar.

The party had contested the Lok Sabha election and assembly polls in the past with bow and arrow symbol after being separated from Bihar in November 2000.

The JD(U) in it’s plea to the EC had underlined that the bow and arrow symbol of JMM was confusing. The “arrow” election symbol of JD(U) is quite similar to that of JMM’s “bow and arrow”. As such it would confuse the voters, JD (U) had said.
