Child dies after tout administers injection at district hospital
An eight month-old baby boy had died at the district hospital in Ballia when a tout administered an injection to the seriously ill child suffering from Septicemia.

The incident took place on Tuesday. Dr PK Singh, chief medical superintendent of the hospital, has ordered a probe into the incident.
Seema, a native of Kirtipur, under Bansdih police station, admitted her child to the pediatric ward of the district hospital on Monday after Dr Anil Singh at the out- patient department (OPD) advised the mother.
When the child’s condition deteriorated on Tuesday, Seema once again took her child to Dr Anil Singh at the OPD.
According to Seema, Dr Singh prescribed an injection and directed her to get it administered to the child at the emergency ward.
Sapna Devi, Seema’s mother, went to purchase the medicine from the medical store outside the hospital while she remained with the child at the emergency ward.
Meanwhile, a tout entered the emergency ward and administered an injection to the child. However, when Seema’s mother returned with the injection, the tout administered that injection also to the child. After about half an hour the child died. Sensing trouble the tout fled away from the hospital.
At the time of incident, Dr Vinod Kumar and Pharmacist Srikant were on duty.
Seema’s mother lodged a complaint with district magistrate Sunil Kumar Srivastava. Following instructions from the DM, additional district magistrate KP Singh and additional superintendent of police KC Goswami reached district hospital and inquired about the incident from the mother-daughter duo.
The district officials also quizzed Dr Vinod Kumar and Pharmacist Srikant. Cops sent the child’s body for the post mortem examination.
“The child was seriously ill and was referred to Varanasi. However, his mother had expressed her helplessness to carry the child to Varanasi for treatment,” Dr PK Singh, chief medical superintendent, said.
Varanasi is about 150 kilometres from Ballia.
The CMS also admitted the presence of touts in the hospital.
“Several attempts have been made to ban the entry of touts in the district hospital, but to no avail. I have requested the district administration to help us in restricting the entry of touts,” the CMS added.
Barely eight months ago, Seema’s husband, Rakesh, died in a mishap.
