A dalit woman was beaten to death by the police in Bangai village in Balrampur district on Sunday.

Reportedly, the policemen of Itwah police station in Siddharthnagar district, conducted a raid on Bangai village on Saturday to nab one Bindeshwari. As they couldn’t find him they beat up his mother Baansmati. On Sunday, Baansmati’s husband Shyamlal took her to the district hospital where the doctor refused to admit her. She later succumbed to her injuries.
Balrampur SP Angil Rasan said the Itwah police had not informed him before conducting the raid.
The police have lodged an FIR against the accused policemen and the doctor.
In another incident, a Dalit woman was harassed by the in-charge of Sashastra Seema Bal post located on Indo- Nepal border on Monday. Police officials said the SSB jawan was in an inebriated condition. A case has been registered and an inquiry has also been ordered.
