Depressed girl jumps to death from 8'th storey

A 22-year old girl ended her life by jumping off from the eighth floor of A Block of Awadh Apartments near Sahara Shahar in Gomti Nagar on Thursday. Police said the girl, Saumya Pandey, was under acute depression and was being treated since past 12 years.

This is the second such death in the apartments in recent years. Earlier, justice (retired) MA Khan, 69, had also killed himself by jumping from the fourth floor of K Block of Awadh Apartments on June 14, 2012.

Saumya had come to meet her eldest sister Rashmi Dwivedi, who stayed on the first floor of the apartments, at around 10.30am. Police said she climbed to the rooftop after finding nobody in her sister’s flat and jumped from there.

Rashmi, who is posted at a senior position in Aminabad branch of Canara Bank, was in her office, while her husband Pranav Kumar Dwivedi was out for some work at the time. They got to know about the incident from some residents, who were alerted by the apartment guard.

Saumya lived with her mother Suman and two sisters Meenakshi and Richa in Vipul Khand. Her f ather Rajesh Pandey was separated from his wife.

District police spokesman Alok Pathak said the deceased was suffering from depression since childhood and was being treated at KGMU since 12 years. Her problem had aggravated gradually and she was not going to college for the last few months.
