The incident occurred in one of the coaches of Delhi-bound Jansadharan Express coming from Bihar when smoke from the extra heated axle triggered panic among the passengers of a general coach. Terrified by it, six passengers jumped out immediately after pulling the chain in a bid to save their lives. However, as soon as they landed on the parallel track they were run over by Rajdhani Express.
“In all five passengers have died. Two of them died on spot while three others succumbed to injuries later. One passenger is critically injured and undergoing treatment,” government railway police from Jaswantnagar said. Agencies, however, put the death toll at six. After the accident the damaged axle has been repaired, sources said.
