A woman constable was terminated from her services on Wednesday for allegedly running an inter-state flesh trade racket.
Usha Singh Tomar has been behind bars since April 11, 2011 when she was arrested along with her husband Ram Prakash Singh Tomar from Kanpur’s Fazalganj police area.
A departmental probe was ordered against her recently following her absence from duty for over two years now.
“The probe revealed she used to remain absent from duty frequently even before her arrest. She, however, had claimed she was framed due to departmental enmity. After the allegations against her were confirmed, she was terminated by senior superintendent of police J Ravinder Goud,” said district police spokesman Alok Pathak.
He said recommendation has also been made to give bad entries to two constables -Narendra Singh, presently posted in Kanpur and Deep Chandra, posted in Varanasi -- for trying to manipulate the probe. He said the duo gave false statements in the woman constable’s favour during investigation.
A source said the woman constable and her husband were arrested on information provided by their aide Zameel Ahmad, who was arrested in April 2011.
He said Ahmad had told the police that the couple were running the sex racket from Chakeri area of Kanpur and had expanded it to nearby districts.
“The woman constable was earlier sent to jail in a murder case and was suspended from 1994 to 1997. However, she managed to evade her termination from the force due to political links,” the source said.
