In a major drive against those possessing illegal arms, the Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested over 1000 people and seized weapons from them.

The drive was launched last night and continued till this morning, Home department sources said in Lucknow.

During the drive, 974 FIRs were lodged and 1374 people were arrested for their alleged involvement in the illegal activity, they said, adding that a number of country-made arms including rifles, pistols, cartridges and illicit liquor were recovered from their possession.

Narcotics substances were also recovered during the drive.
