Police arrest two in Hathras with 92 countrymade pistols

The guns recovered from them were manufactured at an illegal firearm plant owned by one Sahib Singh of Hathras.

Two persons with a huge cache of countrymade pistols were arrested following a raid by UP Special Task Force (STF) in Hathras district of Western Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday night.

Confirming the incident, SSP STF Amit Pathak said, “We have arrested one Mallu Maurya and Jageer Khan with 92 countrymade pistols following an encounter with the STF unit of Bareilly. Both the accused are residents of Sitapur district.”

Several cases related to illegal arms manufacturing and supply against Mallu are pending with the police.

An FIR has been registered against the duo at Sikandra Rao police station of Hathras.

The guns recovered from them were manufactured at an illegal firearm plant owned by one Sahib Singh of Hathras. Sahib Singh is also a known criminal. Singh is reported to be absconding and STF personnel are on a lookout for him.

The STF was on lookout for the duo since the arrest of one Varnam Singh in May.

“Varnam Singh use to operate an arms workshop in Izzatnagar area of Bareilly. He was arrested with four pistols and other material used in gun making. Varnam use to source raw material from Sahib Singh in Hathras,” said an STF officer involved in the investigation of the case. Varnam is currently lodged in Bareilly jail as an undertrial.
