The police have sounded an alert in Lucknow in view of Valentine’s Day on Wednesday, apprehending hooliganism by some extremist organisations.

The Women Power Line (1090) will address emergency complaints related to misbehaviour with women and girls. The staff of police control room (UP100) and Anti Romeo Squad, constituted earlier by the state government, have also been sensitised to entertain girls’ complaints on priority basis, said police officials.

“Directions have been issued to in-charges of police stations and Anti Romeo Squads to deal with trouble makers strictly. People getting involved in any kind mischief with women or trying to do any moral policing will be on our radar,” said Deepak Kumar, SSP, Lucknow.

He said police have been asked to maintain their presence at strategic locations to ensure women’s safety and vigil will be maintained outside schools, colleges, malls and crowded market areas.

The SSP said at least a dozen of mobile police teams would be on patrol during the day to avert any violent action by extremist organisations.

Kumar said vigilance would also be maintained over girls’ institutions to avert any ‘misbehaviour’ incidents. “Women cops will be deployed at such places where such incidents are apprehended and trouble makers will be dealt with strictly,” he added.

Navniet Sekera, inspector general of police, 1090, said some phone lines will be put into service exclusively to handle women’s and girls’ complaints.
