At the time of the blasts, the campus was crowded with lawyers campaigning for their respective candidates for the Kanpur Bar Association elections to be held on Thursday. However, no one was injured in the blasts that occurred within a span of three minutes around 1.20pm.

The bomb disposal squad and forensic experts on the basis of material collected from the site, however, concluded the bombs were in fact fire-crackers.

“No one saw any one throwing or lighting them in the gallery leading to the Bar Association hall,” said Avinash Singh, additional district magistrate (city), adding, “It appears some mischievous elements exploded them to create panic. We are trying to identify people behind it.”
