UP cable operators urge CM to waive off entertainment tax

In a letter written under the aegis of Uttar Pradesh Cable Operators’ Well Wishers Organisation, all the cable operators of the state have appealed to the chief minister to waive off entertainment tax like Rajasthan, Haryana, Himanchal, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Diu and Daman have done.

Uttar Pradesh cable operators have submitted a memorandum to chief minister Akhilesh Yadav to waive off entertainment tax.

In a letter written under the aegis of Uttar Pradesh Cable Operators’ Well Wishers Organisation, all the cable operators of the state have appealed to the chief minister to waive off entertainment tax like Rajasthan, Haryana, Himanchal, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Diu and Daman have done. They said these states have either not imposed any taxes or have imposed negligible entertainment tax, while cable operators in UP have to pay 25% entertainment tax, which was the highest in the country.

In UP, cable has become an expensive medium to gain knowledge, see programmes of general awareness and entertainment, said Achal Mehrotra of Cable Operators’ Association.
