At two polling booths miscreants poured water into ballot boxes. At the time of going to press, 38 persons had been taken into custody.
There was violence right through the state from Saharanpur to Varanasi.
However, despite the violence, the voter turnout was 71 per cent. The first round of elections on Monday was also a bloody one. Four persons were killed and 36 injured.
A man called Abid (50) was shot dead and three were injured when supporters of two candidates exchanged fire in Muzaffarnagar district on Thursday.
And Guddi Devi (35) was shot dead in Firozabad district. Additional Director General (Law and Order) Brij Lal said 21 incidents of violence were reported from various districts.
In Ghaziabad a police sub-inspector called Jitendra Kalra fired on people with his AK-47. Kalra’s brother Narendra is contesting for the post of gram pradhan.
Brij Lal said Kalra had been suspended and an FIR registered against him.
Five instances of ballot-box looting were reported in the districts, Brij Lal said, adding seven cases of stone throwing and nine group clashes were registered.
