Varun was to address the party workers at the Shikarpur area in Bulandshahr district, some 400 km from Lucknow.

"We have denied permission for the BJP meeting on grounds of law and order," Senior Superintendent of Police Nilesh said on the telephone.

"Actually, a few days ago there was a dispute between activists of BJP and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), following which the two group clashed leading to tension in the district. Taking this into account, we have, therefore, denied permission for tomorrow's (Wednesday) meeting," he added.
