1 killed, 6 injured after truck hits bus on Mumbai-Pune Expressway

The police have arrested the bus driver instead.

A 50-year-old woman died and another six people were injured after a private bus they were travelling in was hit by a container truck on Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Khopoli on Thursday morning. All of them are from Pune. The police have arrested the bus driver instead.

Sharifa bibi Amdul Kadak Billawala was sitting inside the driver’s cabin. The impact was such that she broke the windshield and was flung out of the bus, said an officer from Khopoli police station.

She fell on the road and came under the front tyre of the bus, added the officer. After being hit by the truck at 6.30 am, the driver lost control of the bus and it fell into a canal.

The other injured were Bibi Asma Mohammed Naeem Chiniwala,36, Usman Gani Gulab Nami Tiliyawal,40, Yakub bhai Haji Abdul Rehman Masakwala,60, Mehrajban Akbarbhai Shaikh,40, Asif siddhiquebhai Sharakhawal,24, and Imran Rajbasa Diwan,28. They were travelling from Gujarat via Pune to Mumbai.

The police have registered a case against the 32-year-old bus driver, Sajid Ali Kamruddin Shaikh.
